Nurtured Roots

A mom to a Princess and a Prince who is very passionate about Afro hair. I struggled with my kid's hair journey, had difficulty with my toddlers not wanting their hair touched, when taking them to a salon, hairdressers pulling, forcing hairdryers to their natural coils, them not having their own friendly safe space to do their hair and be themselves, if they cry or scream you feel embarrassed all eyes on me. Luckily for me being a hairstylist was my side hustle growing up and at Varsity, but I did not have the time to dedicate it to my kid's hair, if I ended up braiding her, I slept very late yet waking up in the morning for work. I then decided to open a kid's hair salon, naming it Teens (Teenagers) & Tots (Toddlers) with the vision of seeing our toddlers have a nontraumatic hair experience, up to a Teenage stage. Also, Teens who already had the experience to say it’s not too late can still enjoy the natural hair journey, silencing all the pressure or noise of Eurocentric beauty standards, that see afro/curly hair as “wild” and “unprofessional” and even that of the black society of chemically straightening our hair. Teens & Tots encourages them to wear their natural hair the way it grows out of their heads, which is part of who they are.
